Every natural is on a mission to find the best product to define their curls. This seems to be the hardest of all products to find with so many different creams on the market. While I haven’t found the absolute perfect curl defining cream, there are a top few that are definitely worth a try!
If you are looking for a light hold, but a lot of moisture, SheaMoisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie is for you. This isn’t a product I would use on a wash and go, but it works great for twist and braid outs. It leaves your hair moisturized for days and your twist come out very neat and soft. This is number one if your priority is retaining moisture.
This is another cream based product that is less moisturizing than SheaMoisture, but it also gives a slightly better hold to the original curl. I’ve found if you apply on freshly washed hair and twist into four big chunks, your hair will come out more defined than just applying and letting air dry.
Try this if you want a very strong hold to your curl. The only problem is the stickiness. It doesn’t necessarily make your hair sticky, but it feels that way on your fingers. If that doesn’t bother you, I recommend you try it. It does give a lot more definition on curly hair than creams and it doesn’t make your hair hard how often times gel-like products do.
A lot of people love the Koils By Nature line and say that the Soothing Herbal Curl Defining Gel gives them a lot of definition. Because it is a gel, it will give a much stronger hold than the others. The only thing is there is a very strong smell to it, but if you happen to like eucalyptus scents then you might love it, too.
If you haven’t tried Oyin Handmade’s products, you may want to invest. Their products smell great and leave hair super soft. They recently came out with another curl defining cream called, Boing!. This is another cream so it will give you a lighter hold, but keep your very moisturized. If you’re like me, products like this and SheaMoisture Curl Defining Cream should be your go to, because they concentrate on moisture and are usually best used for twist outs. If you wear a lot of wash and go styles opt for the products listed with a stronger hold.
