Donald Trump’s latest suggestions that President Obama may not have been smart enough to get into Harvard University is triggering allegations of racism by some — veteran CBS newsman Bob Schieffer included.

The “Face The Nation” host shared his opinion about Trump’s latest attack on the president’s credentials on Wednesday night’s edition of “The CBS Evening News.” The real estate mogul has since responded to Schieffer’s statement, telling TMZ.com that it was “a terrible statement for a newscaster to make,” adding, quote, “I am the last person that such a thing should be said about.” Trump then appeared to downplay his earlier comments about whether the president had the grades to get into the Ivy League school. He told the celebrity website, quote, “Grades are the least important aspect of somebody being president. It’s not a big subject for me.”

Trump, who is flirting with the idea of running for the White House, stoked the fire about Obama’s education after taking credit for the president’s decision to reveal his longform birth certificate. The move was made in an attempt to silence those, including Trump, who continue to doubt whether President Obama is a citizen of the United States.
